So, being a lifelong dork, I always wondered if I could travel back through time and change my past. I always wanted to until I saw "Tapestry", an episode of Star Trek. (The Next Generation not the original series so its more of "THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HERE! instead of I'MMMMMMMM CAPTAIN KIRK!!!!") Picard was a very rebellious youth, he picked a fight with some vicious motherfuckers, who subsequently stabbed him through the heart. He has an artifical heart replaced and from that moment on, changed his life around. Years later, he "dies" from a phaser attack, if he had a real heart, he would have lived. So Q (don't ask, it will take too long) gives Picard a chance to go back and replay history. So, he goes back in time to the event and does everything differently. He refuses to fight the vicious motherfuckers. Q returns his life, except now everything is different. Picard is some lowly Lieutenant who simply ferries reports between departments. He realizes that who he is now has no fire, no ambition, no imagination. He tries to ask that he wants to do new things but everyone tells him that he never wanted to. He always played it safe. So, he goes back to Q and tells him that he would rather die as the man he was that live as the man he is now. He goes back and picks the fight again. Whether or now he truly died or not is never explained, but changing the events, even negative, unwove the tapestry of his life. So basically get a mental disorder or get your ass kicked if you want to be a Captain of a starship. ;P
